Warm Up Your North Texas Home
Beautiful Woven Shades
As late summer heat begins to ease across North Texas, autumn brings crisp breezes, golden afternoon sunlight, and the natural urge to make our living spaces cozier for the holiday season ahead. Autumn in North Texas offers a welcomed break from summer temperatures, but it also introduces unique design and functionality needs for local homeowners.
Positioned along the fast-growing North Dallas corridor, homes in Prosper, Celina, Frisco, and McKinney feature diverse architectural layouts—from modern open-concept estates and modern farmhouses to historic residential gems. Managing autumn glare while boosting home insulation requires thoughtful design.
Jenni Devenny and the team at Made in the Shade Prosper bring custom showroom selections directly to your living room. Below is an overview of the top fall window treatment trends designed to keep your home energy-efficient, warm, and elevated this season.
1. Rich Textures and Warm Earth Tones
Autumn interior decor centers on texture and rich color palettes. When lower sun angles cast direct light through east and west-facing windows, lightweight summer shears often feel insufficient.
-
Layered Custom Drapery: Pair tailored fabric drapes with existing blinds or shades to create an immediate sense of warmth and depth. Deep terracotta, muted sage, textured cream, and warm taupe bring cozy, autumn-inspired hues indoors.
-
Natural Woven Wood Shades: Crafted from sustainable bamboo, grasses, and natural woods, woven shades introduce organic warmth to open-concept spaces. They filter harsh autumn sunlight into a soft glow while adding tactile dimension to living rooms and dining areas.
Jenni’s Design Tip: Layering custom drapery panels over woven wood or cellular shades adds visual warmth while enhancing insulation along drafty glass panels as temperatures drop at night.
2. Energy Efficiency for Unpredictable Texas Autumns
North Texas fall weather is notoriously unpredictable. A mild 75°F afternoon can rapidly drop into a 40°F cold front overnight. Custom window coverings play a major role in regulating indoor temperatures and keeping utility bills manageable year-round.
| Window Treatment Type | Primary Fall Benefit | Ideal Home Application |
| Cellular (Honeycomb) Shades | Traps air in specialized pockets to prevent heat loss. | Nurseries, bedrooms, and north-facing windows. |
| Custom Plantation Shutters | Provides solid wood or poly barrier against drafts and glare. | Historic McKinney homes & Prosper modern farmhouses. |
| Solar & Roller Shades | Blocks UV rays while preserving natural autumn views. | Frisco open-concept living rooms & sunrooms. |
3. Managing Low Autumn Sun Glare
As the sun sets lower on the horizon during autumn, glare becomes a frequent issue for east- and west-facing rooms. Blocking light completely isn’t always desirable when trying to keep interiors bright.
-
Zebra Shades (Dual Sheer/Band Shades): Zebra shades feature alternating bands of sheer and solid fabric. Aligning the solid bands blocks direct low-angle glare, while shifting them open fills the space with diffused natural light.
-
Top-Down / Bottom-Up Shades: These shades allow you to lower the top section to invite in natural daylight while keeping the bottom section closed for privacy from street traffic in busy suburban neighborhoods.
4. Smart Home Motorization for Holiday Convenience
With autumn hosting, family gatherings, and holiday preparations, home automation offers meaningful convenience. Smart motorized shades integrate easily into daily routines:
-
Automated Schedules: Program shades to lower automatically at sunset to retain interior warmth and ensure instant privacy.
-
Voice and App Control: Adjust hard-to-reach foyer or upper-story windows using simple voice commands via Alexa, Google Assistant, or smartphone apps.
-
Cordless Safety: Eliminate dangling cords, keeping homes safe for young children and pets during holiday visits.
Tailored Window Solutions Across Collin & Denton Counties
Window treatment needs vary across local North Texas communities:
-
Prosper & Celina: Newer construction and custom builds frequently feature large expansive windows, high ceilings, and sliding patio glass doors. Motorized roller shades, zebra shades, and large-scale cellular shades suit these floor plans seamlessly.
-
Frisco: Modern suburban homes benefit from streamlined roller shades and motorized blinds that deliver contemporary style alongside automated sun protection.
-
McKinney: Historic properties near downtown McKinney call for timeless architectural features, such as custom classic plantation shutters or rich Roman shades that honor the home’s character.
